THE WORD FROM GOSTEV

I'm writing this at the Christmas Eve knowing most of you'll probably read it only after the festive season is over. And I would be a real bad Santa if I did not have a present for you, but thanks to our R&D I do – as last week, we've made the long awaited Update 3 for Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 generally available!

As you can see from the release notes, this release is huge – and the interest is huge too! Despite the holiday seasons – for example, the Veeam forums online dropped almost 5 times in the past week – the update package has already been downloaded by over 10'000 unique users, beating all the previous updates. First feedback has been very positive and there are many blog posts popping up with reviews, so I decided to feature one that I liked because it covers many "unobvious" features other don't > The update that's so big, it should have been 9.9

In other news, it looks like VMware and Microsoft quickly came to the agreement over their vSphere on Azure dispute I featured here exactly 1 months ago. VMware has quietly updated their blog post removing "VMware does not recommend and will not support customers running on the Azure announced partner offering" statement and instead are now saying "This offering is being developed independent of VMware, however it is being offered as a dedicated, server-hosted solution similar in approach to other VMware Cloud Provider Partners (VCPP). The deployment is on VMware certified hardware consisting of FlexPod. VMware is in the process of engaging with the partner to ensure compliance and that the appropriate support model is in place". And they both exchange links to each other's blog posts on the subject, how lovely. Peace out – it's Christmas anyway!

And I think it makes the perfect story to finish last year's "word". Merry||Happy %holidayName% to you and yours – and have a very happy and prosperous New Year!

VEEAM CLOUD & SERVICE PROVIDER CORNER

Veeam Cloud Connect service providers, as you already know Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 U3 went GA last week, so those of you who're still using 9.5 U2, please schedule a maintenance window to upgrade your infrastructure to U3. Last week not only our Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 U3 was released, but also Veeam ONE 9.5 U3 became generally available. Here is the KB article describing all new features and fixed issues. One of the features I would like to highlight in this digest is an ability to generate a predefined inventory report that would show you how many VM/Agents are backed up to a cloud repository with no additional license fee for VCC-B. I know that it was a frequent request when we were discussing this recent change in the VCC-B licensing. Also with the releases this week, Veeam Agent for Linux 2.0 can now send backups to Veeam Cloud Connect repositories directly matching the functionality we had in Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows for a while now. Lastly, I would like to pass on some important information from our Cloud Connect support team > this KB is a must read for everyone who is using Cloud Connect replication and network extension appliances (NEA).

Veeam PN users, note that this new product from Veeam also went GA last week! The updated Azure appliance is already available for provisioning. If you haven't tried this free product yet, then do take a look as this solution was designed to simplify and automate the setup of a recovery site in Microsoft Azure. Before you install this product, be sure to check out the Release Notes for the system requirements and supported platforms.

Finally, if you're using Veeam Availability Console, then be aware that we have a sticky topic in the community forums for tracking all known product issues with available hotfixes for them.

BEST POST OF THE WEEK

Re: Any closer to an ETA for Veeam v10 ?   [BY: Erik E. • LIKED: 2 times]

Many thanks Alexander!

I've added a REG_DWORD (32-bit) with the name UseCifsVirtualSynthetic and a data value of 0 to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\ on our Veeam server, restarted the veeam backup service and its working like a charm.

Kudo's for you!

Feature Request - Two-factor auth support for Veeam Console   [VIEWS: 242 • REPLIES: 9]

At my organization we are in the nascent stages of requiring 2-factor auth on all of our systems (we currently have DuoRDP on about 75% of our production servers) and it would be nice to have two factor be available in the Veeam Console at some point. more

Cliff notes - having problems backing up a Hyper-V cluster and you've moved VMs around? Do a re-scan on the cluster IP in backup infrastructure.

Hello everybody.
So we wanted to check out Veeam One, everything works except performance stats. I've enabled every possible firewall rule regarding perf logs I have found on google. I've added service account to admins and performance Log and Monitor users. more
