THE WORD FROM GOSTEV

Big news this week - we have reached the RTM build milestone for Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 2.0 and Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 2. As per our standard release process, we are now starting the early access program for both releases – and I encourage all Veeam enthusiasts to become early adopters! Barring any unexpected issues reported with pilot deployments, we are planning to make both releases generally available in a few weeks.

For Veeam Agent for Windows 2.0 (the next version of Veeam Endpoint Backup 1.5), we have an unrestricted early access program, so you can download the bits immediately. And no, it is not just for Windows 2.0 (as some jokingly read the product name) - we support Windows 10 too, including the latest Creators Update! I have collected all the related information and the download link in this forum announcement. There's a small catch though: Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 2 is required for using Veeam backup repository or Veeam Cloud Connect repository as the target with this build – but Update 2 is not a public download at this time.

Just as with previous Veeam Backup & Replication updates, we make it available via the controlled early access program only. This is because we want to track all customers receiving the update, to be able to notify them in case significant issues are found. Additionally, because most customers tend to install these updates straight into their production environments, we want to make sure we have enough engineering resources available to support them in case of unexpected issues. Thus, to get the RTM build of Update 2, you will need to contact our support directly (and possibly wait a few days as they are ramping up the distribution). That said, our usual goal is to have at least a few hundred successful pilot deployments before GA, so everyone will receive the link sooner rather than later.

While everyone is discussing the amazing Amazon growth, we had our own learning moment with them recently that I thought is worth sharing. One of our top executives got locked out of his personal Amazon account, and he had to fight for over a month to restore the access. The official procedure has failed him completely - calling Amazon support two times, emailing different support aliases, faxing credit card statement and even sending the original statement by regular mail did not help to prove account ownership. Perhaps the AI that blocked him has more power in the company than humans? Anyway, something to keep in mind when trusting your data to hyper-scale cloud providers: you can store it there reliably and at a great price, but be unable to get it back without a great deal of luck, should some robot get upset with you (cause you just can't make these guys change their mind without a human with the screwdriver).

Here's a great overview of all the console enhancements in Windows 10 CU for everyone who is as excited about this integration as I am > What's new in Bash/WSL & Windows Console

VEEAM CLOUD & SERVICE PROVIDER CORNER

Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 2 RTM has been signed off by our QC team and by now you should have received an email from our Cloud team with the download link and all the details. If you didn't receive the email this week, please check out your junk folder and make sure that your email address is specified as a "technical contact" in the ProPartner Portal, as this is where these types of notifications go.

Let me highlight one of the update features that would be highly appreciated by all MSPs offering backup as a service (BaaS). In this release we are introducing Veeam Backup Remote Access functionality that allows VCSP to remotely connect to a tenant's backup server using a Veeam backup console or Remote Desktop (RDP) client via the existing Veeam Cloud Connect tunnel. What this means to you is that now, not only you will be able to monitor and report on the failed backup jobs (using Veeam Availability Console), but also provide full remote support, troubleshooting and job management of your client's backup servers. For more information on this feature, please refer to this blog post > Remote access for MSPs in Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 2.

Here is a heads up to all service providers using Veeam ONE 9.5 to monitor their Cloud Connect infrastructure. To continue doing this after upgrading to Update 2, please install this hotfix which enables compatibility with Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 2. This hotfix must be deployed to the Veeam ONE server that is monitoring Cloud Connect services only. If you have clients running Veeam ONE on-premises, then installing this hotfix is not required.

Finally, I know that there are lots of Kaseya and ConnectWise Automate (ex. LabTech) MSPs who are now wondering if they need to patch their plug-in deployments or not. According to our QA team compatibility test results, you're all set - no update is required for the plug-ins.

That is all for today, have a great week!
-Vitaliy

OK, that's bug №0 - to Anton Gostev attention - you explicitly require us to make a support case when reporting bugs - fine for me, but bloody hell, make sure that we are able to make that support case! I'm receiving almost daily marketing spam from Veeam, but verification email did reach me. more
