THE WORD FROM GOSTEV |
Its August finally and my vacation has started – but I still wanted to share a few quick facts to keep you entertained. The biggest Veeam news of the week was the publication of Gartner's 2017 Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup & Recovery Solutions – we did extremely well this year, significantly improving our positions on both axis. I believe this was by far the biggest jump we ever had in absolute amount. Here's a great blog post by our president with the additional info and links > Up, up and away to the LEADER quadrant, once again Nice job by Dutch policy, I thought this was hilarious > Dark Web criminals caught after reusing passwords. I would understand if it was one account of someone clueless, but 16... wow! I think I first saw Internet about 20 years ago and while its threat level was low back then, out of common sense it was obvious that I should not be using the same password for every web site. So I came up with a simple way to salt my "base" password with site-specific information, and it's been working perfectly for me up until now. I could not make friends with two-factor authentication though: way too much hassle that often made me lose my thought. I do like Microsoft and SalesForce implementation because it is not "in my way" (only required when you logon from a new device) – but after trying I eventually disabled one on my private mailboxes etc. Only most recently, after getting Android, I enabled 2FA on my Google account – and never looked back. Google just makes it super easy – you get an instant popup on your mobile asking for approval, click Yes and you're done. So, I highly recommend to enable this one! i i i don't know about you, but reading this made me shiver > Facebook Shut Down AI After It Invented Its Own Language One non-IT related technology that I follow closely is nuclear fusion. Just like quantum physics, I believe that advances in nuclear fusion will dramatically change our lives in the next few decades, meaning most of us will still get to rip the benefits. I talked about tokamaks here before, so I just could not pass sharing this fascinating beauty. Here are some cool facts about this video! First, it covers just about two seconds of time – that camera did thousands of frames per second. Also, this tokamak is 10 times smaller than 23 thousands tons, 500 megawatts ITER beast that is currently being built in France (I do hope they will get everything right and it won't open a wormhole in the middle of Europe). But for now, size does not matter - what matters is that controllable nuclear fusion is real. Enjoy this first glimpse of the future, and the first man-made star > The first high-speed colour video from the COMPASS tokamak |

Open letter to Gostev [VIEWS: 413 • REPLIES: 8] Hello, This is a somewhat off topic, but since I didn't find any other forum to post it in, and replying directly to Gostev wouldn't be much of a discussion (it'd probably end up in his trash), I'm posting it here. more Storage spaces or S2D on 2016 for archive backup repository [VIEWS: 255 • REPLIES: 8] So I've built a backup server to be a copy target and store monthly archives for 12mo+.
